Giving

Now that it is slower on Ocracoke, the members of the Ocracoke Needle and Thread Club, aka the Quilters, are beginning to return to their weekly meetings. Projects they are working on include a quilt each for the Ocracoke Preservation Society Museum and the Ocrafolk Festival to raffle off. The quilters are all volunteers and provide not just the labor but also much of the material themselves.

Volunteers are the backbone of Ocracoke life. Our community would suffer without all the generous folks that live here. Every fundraiser, scout meeting, fire call, festival, school program, etc. would not exist if it were not for our talented and caring community members. Thanks to everyone everywhere who gives a little something of themselves to make a more beautiful community.

Philip: Apologize in advance for coopting your forum for this hail mary pass, but...

LOST: 1 pr. bifocal glasses, late Thanksgiving week. Maybe in the vicinity of the lifeguard beach. If found I would be amazed, but--worth a shot.

The island was lovely as usual, by the way, even the blurry parts toward the end of our stay.

We waffled about making the trip because of the distance--600 miles one way--but made a realization (and perhaps a new ad slogan) the first morning after our arrival, enjoying coffees and a bagel at The Ocracoke Coffee Company:

Ocracoke: It's always worth the drive.

The quilts I've seen created by the very talented and selfless hands of the "quilters" are always breathtaking! I've never worn one yet, but I will keep buying those raffle tickets. It's all for good causes!

When folks give from the heart, it's always a blessing which keeps giving.

And, to comment about what the other blogger wrote....YES, Ocracoke is ALWAYS worth the drive and extra effort it takes to get to that amazing, unique spot on earth! I wouldn't want it to be any easier to get there. It's part of what makes Ocracoke extra special!

Oh,I hope you find your glasses!
