I was hoping the link would explain the Red. I mean readers hear are all for commas, wear are the punctuaction police when you need them? Is this books to be red what is it about the color red. Is someone's name Red. Will the books be painted red. Or is it a reccomended reading list?

I have lived on the island for 10-11 years. I have never understood the name "Books to be Red." No one has ever explained it to me. I have never asked for an explanation. I don't need an explanation. I just live with it . . . and enjoy it.

Where is the grammar police indeed? "Hear" vs. the correct "here"; "wear" vs. the correct "where"; questions usually end with the proper punctuation - "?"; etc. Watch where you point your finger! Books to be Red is a wonderful shop!

  7. I am with Anon (@10:14 am) -- I've never asked for an explanation. It's just one of those small mysteries of life that keep things interesting.

I always figured you took the books to the beach, and got "RED" while you "READ" the book. Being on an island that has world class beaches, it made since to me.

I find that a lot of words are not spelled correctly when marketing a business name. I believe it's a marketing strategy. It's quiky marketing, but it gets one's attention! For instance, "c' is used instead of "k" and then "k" is used instead of "c". I've seen "s" and "z" handled the same way.

I have noticed that people are not as particular spelling words as it was when I was in school. Of course, we didn't have spell check on a computer either!!!!! :)Kids today use so many abbreviations while texting that it's hard to know how to spell anything. Case in point, my nephew is a terrible speller, but he is a computer genius!

I have also visited Books To Be Red several times and have enjoyed the items the store has for sale. It's always something interesting to see and an enjoyable place to browse, located in a lovely grove of old oaks.

Better a cute, kitschy name than a bland old sign over the door written in sharpie that says 'books'.

    LOL

I make my living as an editor. Trust me, I can be a grammar nazi. But there's a time and place for that. And it's not on Ocracoke :P

Back on topic, oh how I wish we could be there for the ball and festival and oh, just ALL of it! My heart is there, even if my body is not :)

Time to go out on my pizer (hehe) and have a cold one and watch the kids play. It's been a long day :)

so what ur sayin' is I'm bilingual then. Oh now I can finally get my PHD on worthy topic to write about. Thank you OI and the postings keep it up. Fire more salvos, please. Incidently, perhaps the sign order was taken over the phone and this is what the store got for 150 dollars ---the sign installer didn't notice and then no one had a ladder. oh how does spell check work ? it is more difficult on a mac book the words are highlighted and well bare with me.

Inquiring minds want to know. If one does a google search for red book well, it is an eye opener. Asking questions is a great way to start a conversation. Facebook is a 21st century party line. Did OI have partyline telephones back in the day-- when hey what was the first telephone service on the OI?? Also, we are on face book translation we are now participating in data mining and putting the OI in sOcial medIa.
